Forty Mile Bend

Forty Mile Bend is what the jog in US 41, also called the Tamiami Trail, makes about--you guessed it--forty miles from the Atlantic Ocean. It's also on the edge of the Everglades and the even more inhospitable Big Cypress Swamp. Historically, Forty Mile Bend is the dropping off place for items you don't want found in Miami--such as bodies and cars containing the same. It also is the location of airboat tours from which the interior of the swamps can be accessed. Rickie makes this jog everytime he travels back and forth to Marco Island.
